Gonzalez Byass was recognised as the No. 1 Winery in Spain in 2011 and No. 34 in the global ranking by the World Association for Wines & Spirits Writers and Journalists (WAWWJ). Gonzalez Byass has been producing high quality sherry in Jerez for over 175 years. In 1982, Gonzalez Byass bought the Bodega, Beronia has now grown to become one of the most popular Riojas in Spain. The winery nestles in the foothills of Mendiguerra, in Rioja Alta. Surrounded by the Sierra de Cantabria to the north and the Sierra de la Demanda to the south, Atlantic influences and clay soils with a high chalk content combine to give perfect growing conditions. Beronia Reserva 2008 is an exquisite red Reserva wine. Wine region: Rioja, Spain. Grapes varieties: Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano. Review: This Reserva wine has become a benchmark within the classic range offered by the winery. Produced following the philosophy of its creator, Matías Calleja, where the overriding interest lies in showing the main characteristics of a great terroir, combining traditional skills with the most up-to-date technology. Serving: Between 17°C and 18°C. Tasting notes: Dense, bright cherry red in colour, with intense aromas of red fruits, bread and fine wood. Aged for at least 18 months in mixed oak barrels, and then aged in bottle for a further 18 months. Full and fresh on the palate, with a long finish, and sweet vanilla oak.
